Golf in Hua Hin

About Golf in General in Hua Hin

Golf is certainly very popular around the world. Players like Tiger Woods, Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer and Rory McIlroy are passionate about their sport and are household names within this sporting domain. Golf in Thailand is no exception to this rule with over 400,000 golfers hitting Thailand’s Asian shores annually in order to satisfy their passion for the great game.

Golf in Hua Hin has been enjoyed as far back as 100 years ago. In the beginning, the pleasure was reserved for the affluent elite. Now, anybody can play the game and not just the wealthy – and the young and old love to play too. Moreover, the sport now generates over 8 billion Thai Baht in revenue alone with over 200 courses rated as world class here. With, for example, designers like hugely acclaimed golfers Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo and Greg Norman designing courses here, it is no wonder they are so popular.

To visit Hua Hin and not play a round of golf – or at least not bump into someone who is a keen golfer – is highly unlikely. Hua Hin is well known for its golf courses. From Milford Golf course with stunning sea views, where conditions are suited to the beginner because, although a tough course, it is usually so quiet, to Black Mountain, a testy course with incredible mountain views, and a course that now features on the Asian Tour – there is a course for all levels and all requirements. To mention golf in Hua Hin without mentioning The Royal Hua Hin would be a serious mistake. This is Thailand’s oldest golf course and is set right in the heart of Hua Hin. All in all, there are currently 9 renowned golf courses to choose from.

The high season in Hua Hin runs from November/December to March/April. During this time the courses can sometimes get busy. However, the caddies are very knowledgeable about their respective courses and they are more than happy to have fun with you if you have to wait 5 minutes or so. Also, they always have smiles on their faces and like to enjoy a joke or two. If you do have to wait for a group of golfers in front of you, there are a good sprinkling of ‘watering holes’ on many of the courses where you can enjoy a cool orange juice or an ice cold beer. But, maybe that cool beer will affect your judgement on that long and dangerous par 5 over the lake!

During the months of August and September, Hua Hin holds an annual golf festival. Many of the courses such as for example, the Royal Hua Hin, Majestic Creek, Palm Hills and Springfield, offer a round of golf for as little as 800 Thai Baht. Also, some golf courses throughout the year offer a great value promotion. If you tee off from 3:00pm onwards you are only charged half of the regular price. If you can squeeze in 18 holes before it gets dark, you are on to a winner.

There is also a selection of golf tour companies here in Hua Hin too. These companies will take care of, and cater to, all your golfing needs. They will pick you up direct from the airport, check you in to your hotel and then take you straight to the golf course of your choice in the morning. Some of the companies were established as far back as 1992 so they are very experienced and can get you great deals. You can bring your own clubs to Hua Hin or rent them out if you do not want the hassle of bringing them here. Therefore, the golf tour companies’ wealth of experience will provide you with a truly satisfying and unforgettable golfing experience here in Hua Hin. There is also a good selection of golf shops in Hua Hin where you can buy equipment or even test out the latest clubs for sale on computerized electronic driving ranges.

From playing Sea Pine golf course, watching the yellowy-orange sun slowly rise over the shimmering Gulf of Thailand as you tee off, to playing The Banyan and watching the sun set gracefully over the enchanting Burmese mountains, you will have an unforgettable golfing experience here in the beautiful resort town of Hua Hin.
